The time and fiscal requirements of a select youth team can be significant and we have all had instances where something was promised but never delivered. Atlanta Travel Youth Lacrosse is run like a business; you are our customer and you expect us to deliver on the promises that we make. To that end, it is our responsibility to clearly outline what we will deliver and it is your responsibility to understand what we expect of selected players. As with most successful endeavors, this is a two way street.

We expect players to give their maximum effort every time they step on the field; we expect that our preparation and work in practice will result in victory when we step on the field. Players will enhance their natural competitive spirit; they will earn playing time and will understand that hard work and dedication has its rewards. The “work hard – play hard” idea is fundamental in this organization; we will strike the balance between ensuring the teams are playing to the highest level possible but that each player comes away with a sense of accomplishment and an enhanced love and respect for the game and each other.
Cooperative Style vs. Command/Demand – Grow a TEAM philosophy
- Encourage players to coach one other; positive peer pressure
- Limit/eliminate public ridicule; coaches and players maintain control at all times
- Repetition; players learn by doing, maximize every practice opportunity
- It’s not all work – remember the fun; instill a passion for the game and camaraderie associated with it
Development/Improvement – A continuous personal and team effort
- Improve fundamentals everyday
- Constantly enhance a team style of play
- Devise new plays/drills to energize and challenge players
- Team before player, win or lose as a team
Intensity – Practice like you play
- Eliminate losses because of lack of effort or poor conditioning
- Play hard, GAME SPEED…every play, every possession
- Short practice length, high Intensity level
- Develop instinctive reactions for game situations – anticipate and execute
Speed of Play – Fastest game on two feet
- Ball Movement, 3-5 sec. possessions, seize opportunity
- Focus on transition play, leads to fast break scores…Run and Gun style
- Reaction, Reaction, Reaction…….improves lacrosse IQ
- ATYL dictates game tempo, opponents react to us
